He has represented hundreds of police officers throughout Ontario on criminal charges, PSA charges, at Coroner’s inquests, and during complaint investigations. He regularly works with tactical officers in responding to SIU and OIPRD investigations in the context of dynamic entries. Lawrence was co-counsel on the Cavanagh case, which involved a Toronto Emergency Task Force officer charged by the SIU with second degree murder during a dynamic entry. On September 12th, 2022 Constable Andrew Hong (Toronto Police Service) was murdered in cold blood while purchasing coffee for his teammates. The suspect murdered two people that day and shot another three innocent civilians, as well as carjacked a vehicle.
Police Services from multiple agencies worked in conjunction to track and locate the suspect vehicle. Dan and Lance will give an overview to the initial call, and how Halton Regional Police TRU became involved. They will recount how they assisted two Hamilton Police Service Detectives that were actively involved in a gunfight with the suspect. Many lessons to be learned on this most difficult call.

S/Sgt. Brad Gillespie
OPP K-9 Unit

This is a unique program that incorporates the use of a K9 directly into the stack. I had the opportunity to observe these dogs work with the OPP TRU team and it opened my eyes to the value of having this tool added to our tool box.
